It’s a little strange, and perhaps a bit embarrassing to write about utopia. The word literally means not-a-place. Utopianism is, basically by definition, the act of hopeful dreaming of a world that’s too good to exist. And yet, here we are.
Utopian Dreams is a series of essays on how various parts of the world could be made perfect (or at least much better), usually with technology that we have today.
Mistakes:
I initially described the experience of being the astronaut twin in the twin paradox incorrectly during the essay on timekeeping.
In my essay on emotions, I mistakenly associated valence states with having a developed limbic system, speculating that lampreys don’t have good/bad moods. Gleb Tsipursky pointed me to A Brief History of Intelligence by Max Bennett, which corrected this error.
