This article comes at the perfect time, honestly, and it ties in so well with your earlier ideas on advertising and survaillance. How do you see this framework evolving with all the new AI developments?

I'm glad you liked it! And yeah, that's a great question. One of the big reasons I don't talk about AI very much on this blog is that it's changing extremely rapidly and in ways that could be disruptive or existential to many aspects of life, on a global scale. Utopian Dreams, on the other hand, is an attempt to visualize the many opportunities for improving the world that don't involve new tech breakthroughs, often by imagining our current world investing and maturing according to solid principles. So AI lands in this weird zone where I can imagine how things might mature if AI was technologically frozen (which would be weird because it's currently going thru this rapid breakthru period) or it involves figuring out where AI is going and how the various risks and chaos should be managed (which is my day job, but I'm still working on it -- it's very hard!).

Is there a specific angle on the intersection of AI and freethought that you're interested in? I could make some vague gestures towards the positive uses of AI to inform and augment, or the bad uses to empower dictators, but my guess is that I'll be able to say more interesting things if you have a more focused interest.
