Emotional skill-building is neglected, and we lack mainstream language to distinguish different aspects of emotion, such as emotional components and emotional landmarks.
I finally finished /The Box/ by Marc Levinson and have gotten significantly into /A Brief History of Intelligence/. It's excellent! And I was totally wrong about the developed limbic system being necessary for persistent valence states. I've updated the Emotions essay to be more accurate and added a note of the mistake to the footnotes and to my mistakes page (https://utopiandreams.substack.com/about).
FYI, I just read "A brief history of intelligence" by Max Bennett, and he suggests lampreys have valence states. Otherwise, fully agreed 😄
